Online gaming platform, Fortnite, has become a popular place for all kinds of promotional content. It provides a space for promotion to videos, movies, music, and even shoes. Following the same trend, the game is now promoting another game via a crossover, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Fortnite players can now play with their avatars dressed as a classic Star Wars era Stormtrooper.  The Imperial Stormtrooper skin is available to purchase from the in-game item shop for 1500 V-Bucks (Fortnite's in-game currency) till November 17. It is likely that more Star Wars content will also arrive in Fortnite soon. Gamers who purchase the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game from the Epic Games store will get the skin for free. The offer is only valid for purchases made before November 30 though.

Gamers who bought EA's new game will have to sign in using the same Epic Games account that was used to make the purchase. Once they are logged in, they will automatically get the skin in their stack. The scheme is also available across all platforms, provided players link their respective consoles with their epic games account.

The company has also taken care of the players who have already purchased the Stormtrooper skin in the Fortnite and then purchased the Star Wars game, as it will provide 1500 V- bucks to their gaming account. The skin is part of the original trilogy set, which means more Star Wars content or products is in the pipeline.

Other than the skin, an Imperial Star Destroyer has also appeared on the Fortnite. It can be seen hovering over West cost of the game, but players cannot ride in it yet. It would be interesting to see what all new things Fortnite board bring for its players. Considering Fortnite's history anything can be possible.

How to play Fortnite Chapter 2: Tips and strategies for beginners

    Fortnite

    Learn how to win.

    Epic Games

Fortnite Chapter 2 brought new energy to the battle royale game, as well as new people. With so many changes made by developer Epic Games, now's a great time for new players to jump in and for return players to come see what all the fuss is about.

    Where to download Fortnite

Fortnite is a free-to-play game, meaning all someone has to do is download it to play.

Epic has released the game on nearly every available platform. PC and Mac users can download the installer at the Fortnite website. Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One owners can download the game via each console's respective game store. Android users will need to get the game from Epic's website, while iOS users can grab the game from the Apple App Store. On some platforms, players will need to have an Epic account to play, which can be acquired via the company's website.

Though the game is free, there's stuf f in it that has a price. V-Bucks are the in-game currency used to buy outfits, also known as skins, along with dances, gliders and other cosmetics. Every 100 V-Bucks is approximately $1 in real money.

There's also a Battle Pass available each season. The pass costs 950 V-Bucks, or $9.50, and unlocks in-game content as you play and accomplish certain goals, known as challenges, over the course of the 10-week season.

    Fortnite Captain AmericaFortnite Captain America

    Listen to Cap.

    MemeGenerator Rules of the game

Before your first match, let's go over how the game works. Fortnite, as well as games like PUBG and Apex Legends, is known as a battle royale game because it shares the same basic idea as the Japanese manga and movie "Battle Royale": everyone fights until only one person is left standing.

Each Fortnite battle royale match has 100 competitors who are either playing solo, with a partner (known as duos) or as part of a four-person squad. Everyone has 100 health points that can be replenished with healing items found on the island. You can acquire 100 points in shields via potions and other consumables. Players who hit zero health points are eliminated, and the person or team that survives until the end of the match wins the Victory Royale.

    Ready to drop

After selecting a character and mode -- singles, duos or teams -- players start each match at Spawn Island while Epic's system puts together 100 combata nts. On this island, you can run around, do some dancing, harvest some items or just wait around, but whatever you do or gather here won't carry over into the match. When ready, all players are transported to the Battle Bus, a flying blue school bus that carries players to the island where actual gameplay happens.

The Battle Bus takes a different path across the island at the start of every match. You can decide when to jump off, or you'll be forced off once the bus has completed its trip across the map. After a short period of skydiving, everyone lands on the island. Once you're on the ground you'll need to acquire weapons, items and materials to outlast the other competitors.

But other players aren't the only thing to worry about. After five minutes, a storm begins to close in on the island. Those caught in the storm will be dealt damage each second. As the match goes on, the storm circle shrinks and deals more damage, making it important to avoid it as much as pos sible.

If you're eliminated, you can watch the rest of the match or head back to the lobby to start another game. If you outlast everyone else, you win the Victory Royale.

    FortniteFortnite

    Getting ready to take aim.

Epic Games Learning how to pew pew

There are three control schemes available in Fortnite: video game controllers, touch controls on mobile devices, and mouse and keyboard. Of the three schemes, mouse and keyboard is generally considered the best option because a mouse offers better accuracy when shooting. There's also the option to use keybinds, which let you customize the function of a button on the keyboard or mouse. For example, the default key to shoot is the left mouse button, but some players change that button to build a wall instead. Spending time figuring out the ideal keybinds can save precious time during a match.

As a third-person perspective shooting game, which means you're viewing your avatar on screen rather than in first-person, the controls are on par with many other shooters. One hand is used to move the character, while the other aims. With a weapon equipped, it's best to aim down the sights (the button for this varies on each platform) before firing, to make the shot more accurate. Grenades and other throwable weapons will change the display on the screen from a firing reticle to a throwing arc, showing where your weapon will land.

If you've played any modern shooter, these controls will feel familiar. However, it's the next section that really makes Fortnite different from all other games.

    Fortnite buildingFortnite building

Knowing how to build quickly is the difference between winning and losing.

    Epic Games Build, baby, build

In a match, players can build structures as a way to defend themselves, reach certain areas or get the upper hand on an opponent. It's as important, if not more important, than being able to shoot accurately.

Players are equipped with a pickax, or harvesting tool, by default at the start of every match. It does a minimal amount of damage to opponents, but it's important since it lets you acquire materials. Almost everything on the island can be destroyed with a harvesting tool, providing either wood, metal or stone, sometimes called brick. These three materials are used for building, and they range in sturdiness, with wood being the weakest and brick the strongest.

There are four basic structures available to build: walls, floors, stairs and roofs. Each requires 10 of any material to create and will take a few seconds to fully build. Once built, they can be removed entirely or partially via the edit bu tton (more on that further down). Other players can destroy things you've built using various weapons, which is why it's important to decide what material to use. A stone wall will take more damage than a wood wall.

The most common approach to structures is to build a fort, as suggested by the name of the game. This offers some protection from bullets and can give you a better view of opponents. In most cases, you'll be building to defend yourself. Pro players, on the other hand, can build for both defense and offense. An example of offensive building is building a structure around other players in an attempt to trap them.

Building is vital to being a good Fortnite player. Practice regularly until you can do it seamlessly.

    Other useful strategies

Now that you know how to play, here are some tips on how to get better.

  • Learn where to drop -- The island is big and the named locations, also known as points of interest, tend to have more chests that conta in weapons, healing items and other equipment. They can be left out in the open or hidden in certain spots. Get familiar with the map and know where you're headed after jumping out of the Battle Bus. You'll want to go to a place where you can find items as quickly as possible.
  • Know which weapon works best -- There are five primary weapons in Fortnite: pistols, shotguns, SMGs, assault rifles and sniper rifles. Pistols are rarely the ideal weapon for a match, but they're better than nothing. Shotguns deal big damage and can drop opponents in one shot if you're close enough. SMGs fire quickly but lose accuracy the farther away you are. Assault rifles can deal significant damage from a distance and up close. Sniper rifles deal huge damage from a far distance, if you can get a head shot.
  • Keep on practicing -- Fortnite offers a Playground mode that gives players free rein of the island outside of a traditional match. This is a great way to explore the island and learn how to build without the pressure of being eliminated.
  • Learn to edit -- Editing is an advanced part of building. You can edit a wall to create an opening for a clear shot of another player, or you can replace a structure quickly before it's destroyed. These are the skills you'll see pro players use.
  • Make the controls yours -- Every platform has a default control scheme, but Epic has several other options for players who want to switch up what buttons to hit. Try them all to see what feels the most comfortable.
  • Watch the pros -- If you haven't already, go watch some Fortnite pros. Top players from around the globe stream themselves playing the game throughout the day. See where they land, what they do when they land, what weapons they prefer, what they build and how they handle the last pressure-filled minutes of a match.
  • Listen closely -- Playing with headphones is always a good idea in competitive games, especially with Forntite. Epic made cha nges to the sound in the game by adding 3D Audio. This means that in a building, you'll be able to hear other players running around and can gauge how far away they are based on the sound of their footsteps. The sound effect of chests with loot is also more prominent, making them easier to find.

Plus you get 2,000 V-Bucks - Fortnite's in-game currency - to boot, which is the price of a Legendary skin in the game, and works out to approximately £16.

You can check out the full details of the deal below:

As well as the three games and the Fortnite freebies, you'll find a one month Xbox Live Gold subscription included, which you'll need to partake in the multiplayer-only Sea of Thieves, as well as the battle royale portion of Fortnite.View Deal

Unlike the standard Xbox One S, the Xbox One S All Digital Edition does not come with a disc slot, with the system designed with the excellent Xbox store in mind, which delivers the entire Xbox games catalog in digital download format. For users who want quick and cheap access to the very best games Xbox has to offer, as well as simple access to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass game streaming service, the Xbox One S All Digital Edition is a great choice.

This deal is a top value for money deal in our eyes and we're glad Argos has decided to continue to treat its customers to the savings we saw on similar bundles back in September. We'll certainly be keeping an eye on the website for even more deals to come as we barrel towards the Black Friday sales in the coming weeks.

    Fortnite Reveals New V-Bucks Pricing

Fortnite players who want to purchase V-Bucks to buy the next battle pass or pick up some new skins may see some different prices for their various V-Bucks packs now that Epic Games has changed some. Not every region has been affected, but 30 of them have with different prices now in place for products like the 1,000 V-Buck bundle and other purchases. This pricing update comes alongside the release of Fortnite Chapter 2 that's now gone live as what's essentially a massive reset of the game.

Epic Games shared a post on its site about the pricing update for Fortnite's V-Bucks. The same post shared an explanation from Epic Games to say that the prices are being adjusted to be more consistent and fairer throughout the regions V-Bucks are sold.

"Previously, Fortnite pricing for products has had some level of variance across regions and platforms due to currency fluctuations over time and some inconsistencies in how prices were initially set," Epic Games said in its post. "We are making some adjustments to certain products in a few specific countries and on some platforms in order to create fairer pricing across all regions."

The chart showing the new V-Bucks values can be seen below to show the different prices for the bundles.

    Fortnite V-Bucks(Photo: Epic Games)

This pricing change to make things fairer for players in different regions comes at a convenient time as well seeing how Chapter 2 just now launched. Having a Fortnite Chapter 2 is quite the development on its own since that's never happened before, but it also means that players get the standard releases that come with a new season. This means that there's a battle pass that's now available with its own unique skins included in it – skins that can be seen here – and there are also other skins and similar cosmetics that'll be released throughout the season. You'll be buying those seasonal skins with Epic's V-Bucks, so if you're in one of the affected regions, you'll want to take note of the updated chart.

Epic added that it'll continue updating its pricing as currency adjustments occur, so there's a chance these values could be updated further in the future.

Fortnite Chapter 2 is now available across all platforms.

Fortnite players get free V-Bucks over false ban warnings

Earlier this week, Fortnite players were caught off guard by the sudden appearance of a warning screen that threatened to ban the player's account over 'teaming.' The warning was appearing for users while they were spectating players who were still in the match, resulting in concerned posts on Reddit and Twitter. Epic is using V-Bucks to make up for the scare.

According to players who saw the issue, the Fortnite bug was causing the 'Behavior Warning' screen shown above to appear during spectating. Players expressed concerns that the bug may actually result in an account ban; Epic acknowledged it soon after it went viral on the FortniteBR subreddit, stating that it would investigate the issue.

It seems it didn't take long for Epic to iron out the problem and now players are reporting that they've received 1,000 V-Bucks as compensation for the issue. This gift is appearing automatically in affected users' accounts when they log into the game.

The gift is the equivalent of around $10, making it a fairly substantial apology. Users can spend the V-Bucks on the game's Item Shop for weapon wraps and skins or save it to buy the next Battle Pass in coming weeks. This isn't the first time Epic has offered V-Bucks or other items for players impacted by bugs.

Earlier this summer, for example, Epic issued 15 Battle Stars and 1,000 V-Bucks to players who were impacted by various mobile issues that had hit its iOS app. Most game bugs, of course, are fixed without any sort of gift to players — these are reserved for unique scenarios.

Fortnite: How to Get Merry Mint Pickaxe

    Guides

Published on October 30, 2019 Chris Jecks

It's a new month, so of course there's a new cosmetic item that's got every Fortnite player's head in a spin. The Merry Mint Pickaxe is the cosmetic in question, but it's not so straightforward to get as simply purchasing it with V-Bucks or completing challenges. Here's how to get Merry Mint Pickaxe in Fortnite.

The Merry Mint Pickaxe is obtained by redeeming a code on your Epic Games account that you play Fortnite on. The code can be obtained by "heading to select retailers in the United States, UK, France and Germany and purchasing any officially licensed Fortnite product while supplies last."

That quote was pulled from a blog post over on the official Fortnite site announcing the release of V-Bucks Cards coming to retailers in the coming weeks.

According to some players, they were simply given the Merry Mint Pickaxe code by going into their local GameStop in the US and asking for it. Though this may have been a mistake. Still, you'll be able to pick up a $10 V-Bucks card and get the code all the same.

Once you've got the code, you just need to make your way over to the Fortnite Redeem page, sign into your account, and enter the code as you see it displayed.

Then, you'll need to make sure that your game is updated to the 11.10 update, otherwise you won't be able to get the pickaxe. Once you've got the game updated, simply log into Fortnite as you normally would and you'll be informed that the Merry Mint pickaxe has been added to your Locker of cosmetics.

Getting the Merry Mint Pickaxe in Fortnite

  • Purchase any officially licensed Fortnite product from participating retailers in UK, US, France or Germany.

GameStop have the codes for sure.

  • You'll be given a code for the Merry Mint Pickaxe with your purchase.
  • Redeem the code on the Fortnite Redeem page.
  • Update Fortnite to 11.10 and load it up. Your Merry Mint Pickaxe should now be on your account and in your locker.
  • Merry Mint Pickaxe Info

The Merry Mint axe is an epic harvester in Fortnite and is part of the Frosty Flights set. Its description is "Refreshingly festive."

That's everything you need to know on how to get the Merry Mint Pickaxe in Fortnite. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our ever-expanding Fortnite Chapter 2 guide wiki, search for Twinfinite, or have a browse of more of our guides below.

How to get free Fortnite V-Bucks

free Fortnite V-Bucks© Provided by Future Publishing Ltd. free Fortnite V-Bucks

Let's be honest for a minute – everyone wants free Fortnite V-Bucks. You can use this in-game currency to add new emotes, skins, gliders, pickaxes, and much more to your locker. It is possible to play for free without ever buying extra V-Bucks, and you can now access the Fortnite Missions even if you don't buy the Battle Pass, however the rewards you can unlock in Fortnite are significantly limited without it. Because V-Bucks are such a valuable commodity you've probably seen plenty of dodgy deals floating around online – these are all scams, so don't listen to any of them! The only way to actually get Fortnite V-Bucks is by buying them in the game, it's as simple as that. However, there are more than a few ways to earn some free Fortnite V-Bucks as you play. Ok, it will take you way longer than buying them, but these methods can play off if you put in the time and effort to make them work.

Getting paid for progression a screen shot of a video game: Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 Battle Pass V-Bucks© Provided by Future Publishing Ltd. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 Battle Pass V-Bucks

The most straightforward way to unlock free Fortnite V-Bucks is to level up with experience points through completing Fortnite Missions. As you level up you'll reach new tiers in the Battle Pass system (both the free and paid version) and a handful of these tiers will give you 100 V-Bucks each time to spend in the Fortnite store.

Levelling up comes best from playing aggressively and getting kills, surviving longer and getting an experience bonus. All these accomplishments will give you experience points that level you up, so it pays to play more and that's exactly what Epic wants you to do.

V-Bucks through Fortnite: Save the World a screenshot of a cell phone: Getting V-Bucks in Fortnite Save the World© Provided by Future Publishing Ltd. Getting V-Bucks in Fortnite Save the World

Fortnite's original and less popular horde mode offers daily login bonuses, daily challenges, and rewards for Storm Shield Defense missions. They are quick and easy ways to get a small amount of currency each day, although you'll need to actually purchase the mode.

Save The World is currently priced at $40/£35, but it goes on sale frequently if you have a little patience. You can earn thousands of V-Bucks by simply playing the game each day and completing the missions, but if you don't like the core gameplay then it can be a drag because it's vastly different to the battle royale mode.

Steer clear of V-Buck scams Avoid Fortnite V-Buck scams© Provided by Future Publishing Ltd. Avoid Fortnite V-Buck scams

Now that Fortnite is a global sensation, many dishonest players are trying to take advantage of players that are looking to buy some new in-game gear. There are dozens of unofficial sites, YouTube videos, and posts on social media that promise free V-Bucks. Every single one of these are fake.

Whatever happens do not provide account, personal, or credit card info to any site or person even if they say they are from Epic Games (they will never request personal information for something like this). Be extra cautious around any offer like that since no legitimate way to earn free V-Bucks outside the game or through glitches exists.

Earning V-Bucks naturally is a tough ask since you'll need to play for dozens of hours before you're able to afford a 1,500 V-Buck item. Don't get discouraged if you see that as a big roadblock ahead of you, earning that flashy glider will feel far better than throwing down $10 for it will.

‘Fortnite’ Unveils Your Kid’s Christmas Gift, V-Bucks Gift Cards

    Fortnite

    Epic

What do you buy for the child who wants toys that don’t physically exist? Growing up, I wanted X-Men action figures for Christmas that I would rip from plastic and slam into each other. These days, kids want skins for digital characters that they can wear in virtual worlds like Fortnite. And somehow those digital skins are more expensive than my action figures ever were.

But how do you actually buy something like that? Epic realized that was kind of an issue for parents or loved ones, and so they’re now rolling out V-Bucks Gift Cards, the premium currency of Fortnite that will get those kids (or adults, I suppose) those digital items they want.

Previously, the process of gift-giving in Fortnite was somewhat convoluted. You’d have to log into your kids’ account and buy V-Bucks there for them. Or you’d have to make your own account and gift them a skin. My colleague Dave Thier said that he simply bought his nephews Visa gift cards last year and told them to use it for V-Bucks.

    Fortnite

    Epic

Now, Epic is making the process simple. While only out in a few regions initially, V-Bucks gift cards should be live in a lot of places, including the US, by the holiday. Epic is showing off bundles that are:

    $10 â€" 1,000 V-Bucks

    $25 â€" 2,800 V-Bucks

    $40 â€" 5,000 V-Bucks

    $100 â€" 13,500 V-Bucks

As you can see, you get more for purchasing these in bulk, though it can be hard to know what you’re actually getting for that amount of fictional currency.

1,000 V-Bucks will get you a common outfit, which are…usually pretty bad outfits that no kid is going to be excited about, even if they cost 800 and they’ll be left with 200 as change.

2,800 puts you over the edge for all the other tiers of outfits. It can buy you two rare outfits (for 1,200 apiece), one epic one (1,500) or one legendary one (2,000) with a significant amount of change they can use on wraps or emotes or pickaxes.

The 5,000-13,500 tier will start getting you into parent/loved one of the year territory. They can buy a whole host of skins and other cosmetics for that price, but I would advise them not to spend it all in one place, and to save some money for future skins or items they may want down the road.

I mean, any amount is better than nothing, and I frankly don’t know what took Epic so long to get these gift cards made. I am sure they will be a huge holiday hit and you’ll start seeing them in every grocery store and Target you go to soon enough.

What to do when your child starts spending money in video games

Between screen time and concerns about violence, you would think parents have enough to worry about when it comes to video games.

Let me introduce you to microtransactions.

Lost already? Let me explain. Microtransactions are when someone pays cash for an item or other perk in a game or app.

It might be spending a few dollars for a new "skin" or outfit for a player in Fortnite or buying a "loot box" for a chance to win cool items in Overwatch.

Some games are even designed to be "pay to win": where the only realistic way to progress deep into the game is by pulling out your — or your parent's — wallet.

They're popular, they're controversial and they're not going away. But are microtransactions something parents should be worried about? And how can you best approach the topic with your kids?

It's an issue ABC's Good Game is exploring in is new series aimed at parents, Help! My Kid is a Gamer.

    Loading...

Why your kids might be interested in microtransactions

In games like Fortnite players regularly buy skins for their characters with an in-game currency called V-bucks.

If you don't spend time playing games yourself, the notion of paying real money on an outfit for a character in a game might seem strange.

How to tell if a game is appropriate for your child

When a child is exposed to inappropriate content in gaming it can be damaging to their wellbeing. Understanding classifications can make all the difference.

But, just like it's important to be seen wearing the right clothes and brands of shoes to school, it's important for kids to look cool in games, says Marcus Carter, a gaming expert and lecturer in digital culture at the University of Sydney.

"Something that parents overlook or don't understand about games like Fortnite is that it's really a social space," Dr Carter says.

"Some adults see [digital items like skins] as … not real or valuable. But, for the kids who grow up online, the online world is just as important as the offline one."

Sometimes, microtransactions simply make a game more exciting or interesting for children, adds Seamus Byrne, a technology commentator with two young children.

"I think of it as being a bit like giving kids those old-fashioned football cards," he says.

"One packet alone is often not that exciting. People might want to go and collect the whole set, which can be more expensive. It's about people building a digital collection attached to a game."

Should parents worry about loot boxes?

Some games allow players to buy loot boxes offering a chance at winning in-game items or other perks.

    The case for 'geek parenting'

First-time parent Lawrence Leung is navigating the fraught world of bringing up baby. This week he explores gaming and screen time.

Loot boxes often have similar mechanics as pokies, like smaller, intermittent rewards and the potential to "win big". They create excitement — and, for some people, that can cause problems.

One gamer, who didn't reveal his name, told triple j's Hack he spent over $50,000 on loot boxes playing a game called Transformers: Earth Wars.

While the research into the impact of loot boxes is still developing, researcher Jim Sauer from the University of Tasmania's School of Psychology says parents have reason to tread carefully.

"We know, generally speaking, that things like impulse control, the ability to anticipate consequences and the ability to delay short-term gratification … develop with age," he says.

Loot boxes for sale in Overwatch, a popular first-person shooter game.(Supplied: Activision Blizzard)

Another concern is that loot boxes could "prime" gamers for other forms of gambling, says Sally Gainsbury, a gambling and gaming researcher from the University of Sydney.

"What we know from the literature is that people who do engage in in-game payments … are more likely to then go on and gamble and play social casino games and even develop gambling problems," she says.

"We don't know what the causal factor is though. It may be that people who are interested in gambling engage in these sorts of transactions, and they would have gambled anyway."

For parents, it can be particularly difficult to know when a game contains loot boxes because they and other gambling-like mechanics in games are largely unregulated in Australia.

Three tips for navigating microtransactions with kids

So now you know a bit about microtransactions, how do you manage them with your kids? Here are some tips from Seamus.

    1. Build it into your pocket money system

To make sure that his kids really want a particular in-game purchase, Seamus asked them to explain why they wanted it and why it was worth the purchase price.

To pay for it, the kids saved up their own pocket money.

The system means a) the kids must weigh up their purchasing decisions against other options; and b) they have to stop and think before buying something in the heat of the moment.

Why it's time to stop telling gamers to find something better to do

Gaming is often discouraged for being antisocial, but for many it's the opposite: an opportunity to catch up with friends and meet new people.

Read more 2. Never share your credit card details

It's important to keep your credit card details to yourself. Seamus's advice is to set up family accounts on the Apple Store and any gaming consoles children are using.

With a family account, your child will be able to request a purchase, but the parent will need to authorise it.

If you leave your credit card details in your tablet, phone or elsewhere, keep in mind your child may be able to access them if they have access to your account.

    3. Set rules or limits around loot boxes

Seamus's approach is to encourage his children to enjoy the loot boxes when they have them, but not use them to chase after particular rewards.

"I hope through positive parenting they've understood that it's cool to get the awesome items but you shouldn't chase those items. That's that gambling aspect," he says.

"In most of these games, you can earn loot boxes as you go along, too.

"[The lesson is] don't just buy 100 loot boxes because you're really hoping to get an awesome item."

Worried your kid is gaming too much? Here's what to do

Working out how long your child should play video games isn't really the hard part — it's getting them to stop when time's up.

Read more 4. Sit down with your kids and watch them play

"I wish more parents would spend a bit more time participating in what their kids are doing in digital worlds," Seamus says.

"They would worry a little bit less about it if they were a bit more informed."

When you're sitting next to your child while they're playing, you have an opportunity to talk to them about the game and help them think through any decisions about things like microtransactions.

"It's all about being able to look at that specific game and say, 'Is this just trying to punish you for not being someone who is willing to open your wallet on a regular basis'. Those kinds of discussions are great to have with your kids."

Here’s the Official MSPoweruser Xbox Holiday Gift Guide for 2019

The holidays are quickly approaching and, to make your holiday shopping so much easier, we’ve put together a special Xbox Holiday Gift Guide gift guide for all things Xbox!

Whether you’re looking to pick up an entire console and some games, just get something small but meaningful for a loved one, or if you’re looking to treat someone on a budget, we have something for you!

This guide has been helpfully broken down so that even the most technologically-illiterate person can shop for the best present. If you’re a seasoned gamer, you can skip over the “The Basics” section and get straight to the gifts.

A note for all the parents out there: Fortnite Battle Royale is completely free to download and play. If your kid is asking for your credit card details so they can buy Fortnite, they’re either trying to buy the paid Save The World mode or they’re trying to buy the in-game currency known as V-Bucks. Be smart and financially safe this holiday season!

    XBOX ONE BUNDLES

All Xbox One consoles are backward compatible, meaning they can play certain Xbox 360 and even original Xbox games. They also have built-in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, 4K streaming with HDR and Dolby Vision, and premium audio with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. To put it simply: they’re good.

The Basics: You’ll want a console with a large amount of storage (1TB is the ideal minimum) because, let’s face it, the download size of games these days is getting ridiculous and 500GB just won’t cut it. Luckily, all the bundles below come with 1TB of storage!

The Xbox One X is a console for getting the most out of games, with top performance and high definition graphics, while the Xbox One S is ideal for those who don’t need all the latest tech to be happy. Newer gamers or those who don’t need cutting-edge everything will be content with a One S.

As it’s not as powerful as the One X, the One S is cheaper. Don’t worry though â€" you’re still getting an excellent console for an excellent price!

If you’re not too sure which console is right for you or someone else, Microsoft has a very helpful quiz for picking out the correct console.

Are you a Star Wars fan? Are your tickets for The Rise of Skywalker already pre-booked? Then you might be interested in the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Bundle. It comes with a 1TB Xbox One X console, an Xbox Wireless controller, a full download of the Deluxe Edition of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a 1-month trial of Xbox Game Pass for console and Xbox Live Gold, and 1-month of EA Access for just $499.

If you’re into Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order but think the One X is just a bit too much, no worries! There’s a 1TB Xbox One S Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order bundle that contains all the same bonuses as the One X bundle, but with a One S instead. It’s also $200 less than its One X counterpart, going for just $299.

More into shooter games? The Gears 5 Limited Edition Bundle is currently $100 off and going for just $399! It contains the Gears 5 Limited Edition 1TB console, the Kait Diaz Limited Edition controller, a full download of Gears 5 Ultimate Edition, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, and Gears of War 2, 3, and 4. It also has a 1-month trial of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold.

If you’re not into the design, you can also get a normal-design Gears 5 Xbox One X bundle (although it comes with all the same games and bonuses!) for the same price.

There’s also an Xbox One S Gears 5 Bundle which sadly lacks the limited edition design of its One X equivalent, but is a whole $100 less! This bundle comes with a One S console, controller, a full-game download of Gears 5, a full-game download of Gears of War Ultimate Edition, full-game downloads of Gears of War 2, 3, and 4, and a 1-month trial of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. All that for just $299!

While we’re on the subject of Special Edition bundles â€" the 1TB Xbox One X NBA 2K20 Special Edition bundle features the extremely pretty Hyperspace console, NBA 2k20, a wireless Hyperspace controller, and a 1-month trial of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold for a currently discounted price of $399.

Have I mentioned how pretty the Hyperspace console is?

Once again, if you’re interested in NBA 2k20 but think the Hyperspace console isn’t the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen, you can also get a normal-design Xbox One X NBA 2k20 bundle that comes with all the same bonuses for the same price.

If you still want the NBA 2k20 bundle but would prefer it on Xbox One S, guess what! We’ve got that. It’s just $299 and comes with all the same things as the One X bundle, but with a normal-design One S console and controller instead.

Please note the lack of a disc drive.

Are you looking to go disc-less this holiday season? You can get the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition bundle, featuring an Xbox One S 1TB All-Digital Edition console, an Xbox Wireless controller, Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Fortnite Battle Royale (featuring a free download of the Legendary Rogue Spider Knight skin) for just $249!

Note: The All-Digital Xbox One S is all-digital. That means it lacks a disc drive, so disc-based games and DVDs are completely out of the question. If you’re buying this console as a gift for someone, it might be an idea to also get them an Xbox Gift Card so they can pick up some digital games for themselves!

If you’re not into game-based bundles, you can pick up the Xbox One S Two-Controller Bundle (1TB) that contains an Xbox One S console, two Xbox Wireless controllers, a 3-month trial of Xbox Game Pass, and a 14-day trial of Xbox Live Gold for just $299. While this console does have a disc drive, you still might also want to get an Xbox Gift Card so you or your lucky recipient can buy games of your choice straight from the store!

    XBOX ONE CONTROLLERS

All Xbox One controllers are also compatible with Windows 10, meaning you can play on both console and desktop. That means that if you know someone who loves to game on a computer but doesn’t have an Xbox One, they can still get in on the action!

Are you looking to get a custom Xbox One controller for yourself or a loved one? You can, thanks to the Xbox Design Lab! Prices start at just $69.99, with small increases based on how many special customisations you want. The price maxes out at $102.95 if you want all the added extras plus a personalised laser engraving.

Are you an NFL fan or know someone who is? You can get a specially designed custom NFL controller for just $84.99! You can also add Rubberised Grips for just $5.99 and you can even add a personalised engraving for absolutely free. Go sportball!

    Even the buttons are purple!

Do you know someone who’s mad about Fortnite? The Fortnite Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controller will be perfect for them and, to make things better, it’s currently discounted to just $54.99! This controller sports an Epic purple design and comes with the in-game Legendary Dark Vertex outfit and 500 V-Bucks.

If you’re looking to shell out a little bit more cash in exchange for quality, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 will be absolutely perfect. While it sports a price tag of $179.99, it’s 100% worth it for the adjustable-tension thumbsticks, shorter hair trigger locks, wrap-around rubberised grip, and re-engineered components. This controller is made for serious gaming.

You’re not just paying for the controller, though. This is what you get in the box:

  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2
  • Carrying case
  • Set of 6 thumbsticks: Standard (2), Classic (2), Tall (1), Wide Dome (1)
  • Set of 4 paddles: Medium (2), Mini (2)
  • Set of 2 D-pads: Standard, Faceted
  • Thumbstick-adjustment tool
  • Charging dock
  • USB-C cable
  • Looking for something a little more cyberpunk? The Phantom White Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controller features a translucent white design so you can peer at the inner workings of your controller. It’s also on sale for just $59.99 right now. You can also get it in Black!

Gaming is for everyone and the Xbox Adaptive Controller is the best way to make sure every single person is included. Designed primarily to help meet the needs of gamers with limited mobility, the Adaptive Controller makes gaming more accessible. You can also connect up external devices to make gaming fun and enjoyable for everybody. It’s also just $99.99, which is a steal for what the controller can do.

For the Minecraft lover in your life (whether that’s you or someone else), you can pick up the adorable Minecraft Pig and slightly-less-adorable Minecraft Creeper Xbox Wireless Controllers for just $69.99 each!

    XBOX ONE ACCESSORIES

Are you all about the aesthetic and think mounting your console to the wall would be awesome? If so, you can pick up an Xbox One S Wall Mount or an Xbox One X Wall Mount for just $37.99 and $39.99 respectively! Pros of mounting your Xbox One to your wall include that it’s protected from accidental damage and that it looks really cool.

You can also pick up Controller Wall Mounts, if you’re really into mounting things to walls. These cost just $24.99 for two. Wall mounts also make excellent gifts for friends with young children, ensuring that consoles and controllers are safe from mischievous hands.

Looking for a headset? The Xbox One Stereo Headset goes for a very affordable $59.99 and gives you a premium audio experience with comfortable ear pads and a unidirectional microphone. While it’s not the fanciest headset out there, it definitely gets the job done and would suit any casual gamer.

If you’re willing to go for a higher price range in exchange for a more defined experience, the Astro Gaming A40TR Headset + MixAmp M80 provides total control over your gaming audio experience for $199.99. It features a swappable boom mic and customisable Speaker Tags, with the MixAmp M80 mounting directly onto the Xbox One controller so all the controls are literally at your fingertips. This headset is quite popular among streamers.

The SteelSeries Arctis 9X Gaming Headset is also $199.99 and has a slight advantage over the Astro Gaming A40TR in that it’s completely wireless. The Arctis 9X uses Bluetooth audio, ClearCast bidirectional microphone, and award-winning Arctis sound to make this headset one of the best choices for gamers. It’s also designed for comfort, keeping your head cool and comfortable at all times.

Note: As it’s wireless, this headset will require charging.

    GIFT CARDS

Not too sure what someone would want? You can’t go wrong with an Xbox Gift Card!

While the link will take you to a $75 gift card, you can easily change it to almost any amount between $1 and $100. That means if you’re part of a gift swap where the limit is $10, you can just pick up a $10 gift card.

Xbox Gift Cards aren’t just for games â€" they can be used to purchase films, TV shows, apps, Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, Xbox Game Pass memberships, and even on devices including consoles and bundles.

They can also be used on both Xbox consoles and Windows PCs so, if you’re not sure if someone’s a console or PC gamer or even if they’re both, the Xbox Gift Card is flexible to their needs.

    Gift cards also never expire!

Note: Gift cards can only be used online, which means they won’t work at physical Microsoft Stores (those are the ones you physically go and visit). They will work with the online Microsoft Store, though!

Gift cards are also only available in local currency, so for example: if you’re in the US and buying a gift card for a UK friend, you’ll have to go through the UK Microsoft Store.

Our Xbox Holiday Gift Guide is subject to change if items listed change prices or if anything new appears! If you want gift advice, you can also leave a comment and we’ll try our absolute best to help you out with holiday shopping.

You can also check our Gaming section every day to see if any new or interesting deals have popped up.

Fortnite Starter Pack: The Wavebreaker Pack is the best deal you can get in the game

There have been many changes to the game recently, but one thing that has stayed consistent is the Fortnite Starter Pack and the excellent value it represents. The stream of new cosmetics you can purchase in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 keeps on flowing, so there's always items available to tempt you into spending some V-Bucks from your account. As well as completely redesigning the Fortnite map, Epic have now released a new Fortnite Starter Pack across all formats, including mobile so everyone can enjoy the benefits. This surfer style bundle costs just $4.99/£3.99 and contains a Wavebreaker outfit, a Dry Bag back bling, a Swell Striker pickaxe, and most importantly 600 V-Bucks to use for microtransactions in Fortnite. You can see what they look like here:

Even if you don't plan on equipping these new cosmetic items, this still represents a great value deal for the in game currency alone. There's no set date for how long this Fortnite Starter Pack will be available - the previous bundle was on the store for around 10 weeks - but it will eventually be removed, so if you're considering a purchase then don't wait too long.

I wasn't just guessing with that V-Bucks efficiency talk - here's how the math stacks up for each individual V-Bucks purchase Fortnite offers, taking into account total V-Bucks including "bonuses" for buying in bulk, and rounding to the nearest whole number:

  • 13,500 V-Bucks for $99.99 is 135 V-Bucks per dollar
  • 5,000 V-Bucks for $39.99 is 125 V-Bucks per dollar
  • 2,800 V-Bucks for $24.99 is 112 V-Bucks per dollar
  • 1,000 V-Bucks for $9.99 is 100 V-Bucks per dollar
  • 600 V-Bucks for $4.99 is 120 V-Bucks per dollar
  • The ratios work out similarly for GBP and other currencies. As you can see, the Fortnite Wavebreaker Pack gives you the most V-Buck buying power of any option under the 5,000 purchase - which is quite an investment in in-game currency, since you could also use that same amount of cash to buy a new AAA console game. Or perhaps just an irresponsible amount of pie, if you prefer.

The Fortnite Wavebreaker Pack, on the other hand, is nestled comfortably in "impulse buy" territory even without the shiny Wavebreaker outfit plus matching Dry Bag back bling and Swell Striker pickaxe. You can skydive into battle like a true surfer if you suit up in it.

Do note that the Fortnite Wavebreaker Pack can only be purchased once for each account, so it isn't an endless wellspring of in-game currency. And if you'd also like to buy the Fortnite Battle Pass without grinding for the free V-Bucks you occasionally earn, you'll still need to buy extra on top to reach the 950 V-Bucks asking price; in other words, if you're starting with this Starter Pack, it won't actually save you any money on the Battle Pass - which is still totally worth it. You can always use those extra V-Bucks to pick up more customisation items though, or put them toward your purchase of the next Battle Pass when Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 rolls around in a few months.

Don't forget, if you're a PS4 player and PS+ subscriber then you can still grab the Fortnite PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack, which is free and includes the exclusive Pneumatic Twin Pickaxe, Radiant Blue Wrap, Flail Emoji, and a Banner. Hey, it's always nice to get a little bonus, right?
